After a long-awaited update, and a 2 week delay, we finally have the new game mode for Dress To Impress: Style Showdown. Teased to be like the format of the well popular RuPaul’s Drag Race, the mode brings a new sense of competition of the game, especially for those people who have reached the higher ranks in the regular game mode.

For those of you who do not know what Dress To Impress is, it’s a Roblox game that is a styling competition among other players. Having gained increased popularity last year with the ‘Brat Summer’ update and events, the game has only got bigger, expanded maps, outfits, and themed updates. The latest update for Valentine’s Day brought a larger map and a new quest, as well as this new game format. We also saw that those in higher ranks can gain exclusive items, that you can only get by playing the regular styling mode and gaining stars.
Each game you play is different, consisting of up to 7 rounds of up to 10 players, with the finale narrowing the competition to 3 people. The rounds are random and involve various new formats we haven’t seen before, such as item lock, limited items, and speed rounds. Each round is overall a quicker than a usual match of the regular mode, being around 3 minutes per round compared to 6-7 in the regular. If you make it to the end, these rounds can add up and mean that you are in the same match for over 20 minutes; which makes it harder to get a ‘couple’ of rounds in on your off time.
I played 3 matches of the game type, and overall, I like the concept! I think its refreshing to have a smaller map, with a smaller amount of items; making outfits needing to be more creative. Some of the items also switch during rounds and matches, so people cannot be EXACT on what will appear next time, making it more difficult to plan an outfit in advance.

The game mode I like the most was “limited items.” You can only pick 6 items, which means you have to strategize on what you can use to make the outfit theme. Hair also counts as 1 item, so there is no ability to layer anything in this round!
The ability to vote on other people’s outfits at the end of the rounds also gives the game a sense of pressure, much like you see in reality show games. Do you vote for the best dressed, or people you know you will beat next time for sure? It’s a battle of wits, and I would recommend that you try out different strategies.
You can also buy immunity idols using robux to make sure you pass to the next round if you are worried you will be voted out. These are not very useful at the minute, as you can only use them once and one round will not secure your victory.

The overall negative of the game mode is that there are no rewards unless you win the entire match. To gain the exclusive rewards for this game mode, you must win three times; which if you are playing alone, may be very difficult.
I got to the finale each time I played, and another player was picked to win. If those who are eliminated stay in the match, they get to vote on the winner. This makes it more difficult if the eliminated players know someone in the finale and want them to win. If no one sticks around for the finale after they are eliminated, the winner is determined on how many ‘style stars’ you gained during the match, which is based on how many votes you got from others, and how high you were in the rankings.
If you want to ensure you gain the prizes, I suggest you only play with friends, or a group to help each other get to the end. While it will be possible to win playing on your own, I found this to be the most effective way to win.
If the game mode offered more rewards for playing, it would be a better experience overall. While the exclusive outfit is nice and the toggles seem to be useful; the majority of players will struggle getting it, and maybe that is the point! Not everyone gets to win RuPaul’s drag race overall.
If you want to try the game mode for yourself, it’s available in the server selection. See how you fair against other players, and maybe decide if you need some teamwork. May the odds be in your favor!
Until Next Time!
